In 2022, Anne founded Home. Clay Studio in Footscray, VIC, which offers an intimate and nurturing community environment imparting solid skills, knowledge, and confidence to push the boundaries of students’ practice through classes, workshops, and studio access.
In addition to her teaching and artistic practice, Anne draws from her diverse professional experiences in architecture, industrial design, environmental sustainability, and social impact management. These influences are evident in her focus on material knowledge, creative problem-solving, group facilitation, and awareness of diverse lived experiences.
Artist Statement
What’s Happening in Australian Ceramics? Following her relocation from the United States to Australia, ceramic artist Anne Sherman’s attempts to understand the context of learning and development opportunities for ceramic artists in Australia resulted in more questions than answers.
Leaning on her training in social impact management, Anne interviewed dozens of stakeholders across Australia to gain insights into this question, with results shared in the Journal for Australian Ceramics.
This interactive workshop will invite participants to reflect on these insights, share concepts and consider opportunities and threats for the future of Australian Ceramics.
Findings from this workshop will contribute to an ongoing body of research into the state of Australian ceramics education and the development of recommendations and resources for community advocates and decision-makers.
