She has exhibited and given workshops internationally. Her ceramics are in the style of “Terre Vernissee’’ terracotta slipware, influenced by her time working and travelling in France. Jane has been running ceramic and art related tours to France since 2004 as ‘Zeste French Tours’ and has organised the Pottery Expo event in Warrandyte for the past 22 years.

She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
Her work is primarily functional with rich honey and green glazes, with thick slip brushwork decoration. Her pieces are intended for the table to enjoy using everyday.

The Potters Market

The Development of Potters Markets in Australia and Europe and their impact on the livelihood of studio ceramic artists and growth of ceramics.

From the rise of a grass roots need for ceramic sales, exposure and camaraderie in local regional environments, the Potters Market phenomenon has grown over the last 30 years to provide important opportunities for the studio potter. On the way, it has encouraged further artistic and stylistic development, excellence, and a focus on ceramics education and dissemination of information, networking opportunities, while building the ceramics community.

The Potters markets are annual cultural arts events, attracting large numbers of visitors, often with associated events such as ceramic exhibitions, workshops, talks, guest artists and social events.

I will discuss the obstacles in setting up a potters market and also the tried and tested ways to get it up and running and making it a success.

I will compare the Potters markets in France, Italy [Florence and Faenza], The Potters Fairs UK, and The Pottery Expo Warrandyte, Melbourne. Images from each of these events will illustrate the environments, displays and presentation, and variety of work exhibited.
