About

Luda Korczynskyj, a ceramic artist of Ukrainian descent, draws inspiration from her great-grandfather, who was a village potter in northeastern Ukraine. As a displaced person, this connection to her heritage compelled her to pursue a career in ceramics. Her artistic journey led to a deep engagement with the ancient Ukrainian egg-decorating technique of Pysanka, which she has adapted and developed onto ceramics. Luda’s expertise extends to operating Farmhouse Pottery and teaching pottery at Albany and Subiaco TAFE for 11 years. She has curated significant exhibitions, including a Pysanka exhibition at the Vancouver Art Centre in Albany, as well as solo exhibitions at the Kingfisher Gallery in West Perth (Orchidaceae, 2009), Moores Building Fremantle (2015), and Gallows Gallery (Women on a Wire, 2018). Her work has been recognized with several art awards, including accolades in York, Albany, Victoria Park, and Melville, and she was a finalist in the Black Swan Art Award in 2012. In addition to receiving commissions, Luda has collaborated with school children on community projects, such as mosaics with Challis in Armadale and ceramic installations with schools including Walpole and Rehoboth-Kenwick. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including with the Ceramic Arts Association of WA (CAA WA), where she was selected for the People's Choice in 2023, as well as at Petrichor Gallery. In 2024, she entered the Archibald and Lester Prizes with 2D images on clay, and in 2025, she submitted work to the Collie Art Award. Through her ongoing creative practice, Luda continues to explore the intersection of tradition and innovation, sharing her cultural heritage and artistic vision with new audiences.
