About
My partner Janine King and I were burnt out in the catastrophic bush fires of 2019. I saved my life by running and hiding in my kiln while the fire roared over me. We have spent the past 5 years re-building our lives and pottery studio. We have only just got our creative work life back in order.
I have spent the past 20 years researching single-stone, sericite porcelains all around the world. I have travelled widely, presenting papers at conferences giving talks about my research and been invited to talk, teach and give workshops in the UK, France, Germany, Denmark, New Caledonia, Korea and Japan.
My most recent research has centred on minimising the particular emissions from my wood fired kiln chimney.
Artist Statement
I have been a potter for over 50 years. I have spent a lot of time researching, my local rocks, gravels, shales and ashes for my glazes and clay bodies. I have also discovered a local natural baitunze-like stone for my porcelain body.
I have always wood fired my work using a clean firing Bourry-box style firebox and in recent years, I have become more concerned about the micro particles that are released into the atmosphere from my chimney.
I have designed and built a stainless steel scrubber to help remove some of those particles before they are released.
