Conversations with Clay

26 September - 5 October

Earlywork

Sharing a curiosity about the endless possibilities of clay, Judith, Felicity and Janet formed a friendship based on the conversations that developed around the diversity of each other’s work.

Judith Paisley’s passion lies in alternative firing techniques. Specialising in Raku, Naked Raku, Sagger and Pit-firing she develops dynamic forms and embellishes them using mixed media. Through her understanding of the firing processes, she

directs the surface treatments of some of her work with mineral driven decoration and pushes the boundaries of her practice.

Felicity Bodycoat’s work reflects her background in landscape design and interest in architecture. She slip-casts in fine porcelain from her own moulds creating contemporary forms using a minimal palette of coloured slips that evoke a fluid

aesthetic. Felicity enhances her work with decals using drawing and printmaking techniques that allude to textures from the natural and built environment.

Janet Hummerston works with porcelain and stoneware using throwing and hand- building techniques. Her works are based on an enduring connection to place and reflect her concepts of home. Janet creates works that reflect the fragility of a special

space and the power of its form. Some works allude to familial vessels, and other sculptural forms to the landscape.
